OUR HISTORY

University Office Technologies (UTEC) started in 1975 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, selling copy machines. 41 years later, we are a growing company that is recognized as a leader in office management solutions. We offer state-of-the-art technology and unwavering customer service that has helped us grow and expand our operations across the Ann Arbor and Metro Detroit market area.

We have a large product and solutions range as an official dealer of Sharp® copiers, printers, display boards and multifunctional devices. Yet our focus and reach remains local.

We are a company employing 40+ hard-working men and women. Our local focus extends beyond the corporate hallways. We are dedicated to supporting the communities in which we operate, including many philanthropic efforts to support academics and athletics.

Our Community Involvement

The Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Regional Chamber awarded Kevin Van Kannel of UTEC the distinction of “Small Business Man of the Year Award” in 2013 for demonstrated business growth, community involvement, overcoming adversity and for being a credible and responsible business owner. This was a celebrated honor at UTEC!

Ele’s Place is a nonprofit, community based organization dedicated to creating awareness of and support for grieving children and their families. Through peer support group programs, Ele’s Place helps children to cope with the death of a parent, sibling or other close family member or friend. UTEC has been a strong supporter of Ele’s Place, serving as sponsors, board members and more.

SafeHouse Center’s main goal is to provide safety, support, advocacy and resources for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence and their children. In addition, to work relentlessly to change the systems and attitudes that allows this abuse to continue. UTEC has been a supporter of this organization in various ways.

826michigan is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students aged 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. UTEC has supported this organization by sponsorships and more.

UTEC participates in “Ypsi Proud Day” which is a community-wide event intended to foster community pride and encourage local business growth by creating a clean and welcoming environment. It began as a class project by the 1995 graduating class of Leadership Ypsilanti, an experiential learning program sponsored by the Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti Regional Chamber, and is now sponsored by the A2Y Chamber Foundation. 500-1200 volunteers spend the morning picking up litter, painting, planting flowers and otherwise beautifying the Ypsilanti community. After the clean up, volunteers are treated to lunch and entertainment at the Post-Event Celebration at North Bay Park.
